Job Summary

The Post Write-Off Recoveries Officer will manage, control, and monitor the post-write-off portfolio, ensuring cost-effective legal recovery of outstanding bad debt by engaging third-party service providers. The role also involves managing legal risks and optimizing recovery cash flows to maximize return on delinquent accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate payment arrangements to maximize recovery on delinquent accounts.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to payment agreements to prevent legal action.
  • Maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactively manage legal risks associated with the post write-off portfolio.
  • Ensure timely submission of invoices to the finance department.
  • Complete reports to provide accurate data for management.
  • Operate within Absa’s policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and delegated mandates.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to achieve targets.

Quality and Risk Management:

  • Adhere to compliance and SOX attestation timelines.
  • Report any risk or loss events, fraud, or errors to the relevant risk managers.
  • Follow Absa’s internal code of conduct and report irregularities.

Customer Service:

  • Provide high-level service to customers, attorneys, and stakeholders.
  • Resolve customer and stakeholder queries in a diligent manner.

Technical Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of Absa’s retail products and risk policies.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to work independently.

Education and Experience Required:

  • 2 years of collections experience.
  • Knowledge of banking products, especially cards and loans.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet).
  • No criminal record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post write-off experience in a financial institution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, Banking, or Risk.
