Educate! is an award-winning non-profit social enterprise dedicated to empowering Africa’s youth by providing innovative solutions for youth employment. With a focus on marginalized groups, we have impacted over 250,000 youth across Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya. We are looking for a Finance Manager who is enthusiastic, analytical, and committed to improving processes within a fast-paced environment.

Position Overview

The Finance Manager will lead the finance functions of Educate!, ensuring robust financial management, compliance, and strategic insights. This role involves supervising a team of two and reporting directly to the Managing Director.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Oversight (30%)

  • Lead finance and accounting operations, proposing improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Provide financial insights for strategic decision-making and guide management to improve results.
  • Maintain control over general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with Tanzania Revenue Authority and NGO Board requirements.

Financial Reporting (30%)

  • Prepare and share monthly budget balances with budget holders.
  • Minimize errors through continuous feedback on reporting.
  • Generate accurate monthly financial and management reports, including income statements and cash flow projections.
  • Coordinate the preparation of audited financial statements and tax returns.

Financial Control & Accounting (20%)

  • Implement and observe Educate! accounting systems and procedures.
  • Ensure timely processing of financial transactions in compliance with accounting principles.
  • Manage payroll, accounts payable, and bank reconciliations.

Budget Management (20%)

  • Assist in budget preparation and updates, providing support to budget managers.
  • Monitor budget memos and update accounting systems accordingly.
  • Provide training to improve financial management practices among teams.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or Commerce.
  • Member of CPA (T) (NBAA) in good standing.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and QuickBooks.
  • Minimum 5 years of finance and accounting experience in a non-profit environment, including managerial experience.
  • Strong background in coordinating audits, reporting, budget development, and analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
