Durban University of Technology (DUT) is a leading higher education institution in South Africa, providing high-quality education to students from all over the world. As one of the most prestigious universities in the country, DUT offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various fields of study. However, to be admitted to the university, students must meet certain admission requirements.

For the 2024–2025 academic year, DUT has set specific admission requirements that applicants must meet to be considered for admission. These requirements vary depending on the program of study and the level of study. For undergraduate programs, applicants must have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent qualification, with a minimum score of 30 points. In addition, some programs may require specific subject combinations and minimum scores in these subjects.

Applicants for postgraduate programs must have a relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification, with a minimum average score of 60%. Some programs may require additional qualifications or work experience. It is important to note that meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the university, as the selection process is highly competitive.

Minimum Academic Requirements

To be considered for admission at DUT, applicants must have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or an equivalent qualification, such as an N3 certificate, a National Certificate Vocational (NCV), or a Senior Certificate (SC). Applicants must have passed a minimum of four recognized NSC subjects at a minimum level of achievement specified by DUT for the particular program that the applicant wishes to study.

National Benchmark Tests

All applicants who wish to study at DUT must write the National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) before they can be considered for admission. The NBTs are designed to measure academic readiness for university-level studies. The tests cover three areas: Academic Literacy, Quantitative Literacy, and Mathematics. The results of the NBTs are used in conjunction with the applicant’s NSC results to determine their admission status.

In summary, DUT has minimum academic requirements, no age restrictions, and requires all applicants to write the National Benchmark Tests. Prospective students are encouraged to consult the DUT website or contact the admissions office for further information on the admission criteria.
