Role Overview:
IFC is seeking a Climate Finance Specialist to support the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) in East and Southern Africa. This role involves working with a multi-disciplinary team to assist partner financial institutions in developing and delivering climate finance programs. The Specialist will engage with various stakeholders to identify business opportunities and disseminate lessons learned to advance the climate change agenda in the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the regional Climate team on new opportunities, stakeholder management, and portfolio management.
  • Develop client engagement plans and pitch materials, particularly in Climate finance.
  • Build and maintain relationships with mid-level clients and stakeholders, including government and development partners.
  • Analyze the operational and financial performance of potential clients/projects, including credit and integrity risks.
  • Conduct assessments related to Paris Alignment and Climate Risk for investments.
  • Develop complex financial models, perform due diligence, and provide quality control over financial analyses.
  • Assess and articulate development impact related to climate aspects in transactions.
  • Lead climate risk and opportunity assessments for investments.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to strengthen project impact and sustainability.
  • Perform credit and risk assessments, impact reporting, and monitor portfolio performance.

Selection Criteria

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in finance, economics, or related fields; CFA or CPA accreditation is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sourcing, structuring, and closing investments, preferably in equity and debt, including with financial intermediaries.
  • Understanding of financial structures for financing climate-friendly projects.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Extensive knowledge of clean energy and environmental markets, particularly in Asia.
  • Understanding of the operations and business drivers of banks, insurance companies, and financial intermediaries.
  • Familiarity with metrics for tracking climate investments, including GHG accounting.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, equity valuation, and financial modeling.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and draft concise reports.
