Job Description:
The Assistant Accountant will support the implementation of internal controls for processing project-level transactions in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), and Medical Teams’ Finance Manual, as well as donor requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify that all payment requisitions comply with Medical Teams’ checklist.
- Review receipts, expenditures, purchase orders, and disbursement orders for proper cost allocations and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain the cash book and all program vouchers for verification before posting to the general ledger.
- Ensure accurate records of cash transactions and monitor petty cash expenditures.
- Support the preparation of project financial reports by summarizing vouchers according to Medical Teams’ policy.
- Provide technical support to non-finance staff on financial policies and procedures.
- Verify the asset register with the Logistics & Procurement Department to ensure compliance with Medical Teams’ policy.
- Participate in the preparation of annual cash flows and budget requirements.
- Promote safeguarding awareness and uphold Medical Teams’ protection policies for program participants and employees.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or Commerce.
- CPA certification or progress towards it is an added advantage.
- 2 years of experience in Finance and/or Accounting.
Requirements:
- Basic knowledge of non-profit accounting and ERP systems like Sage or Unit4.
- Familiarity with IFRS/IPSAS.
- Proficiency in explaining financial procedures to non-finance staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills with fluency in written and spoken English.
- Ability to maintain high levels of accuracy, organization, and confidentiality.
