Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is a leading research organization in Africa, specializing in health innovations. The PMI Shinda (Defeat) Malaria project aims to support the Government of Tanzania in reducing the malaria burden and moving towards malaria elimination.

Position Summary

The Accounts Officer Intern will support the finance and accounting functions for the PMI Shinda (Defeat) Malaria project. Responsibilities include maintaining financial records, assisting with asset management, and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Payments & Records: Assist in reviewing and processing payments, and maintain project transaction records.
  • Asset Management: Help in updating the assets register.
  • VAT Claims: Assist in compiling VAT claims and submitting them for refund.
  • Bank Reconciliation: Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Clerical Support: Provide support to the Grants unit and maintain finance and grants files.
  • Expenditure Review: Assist in reviewing subgrantees’ expenditure reports and compliance.

Qualification and Experience

  • Education: Fresh undergraduate with a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Commerce, or related field.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of accounting principles and donor-funded projects.

Skills and Competencies

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and accounting software.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Personal Attributes: Self-management, adaptability, integrity, and teamwork.
